What are Hemroids

When you have problems with them, then you naturally ask – what are hemroids. They are veins in the anal cushions that become swollen and inflamed due to extreme or constant pressure. They may appear outside, inside, or even above the inside of a person’s anus.

They are generally categorized into internal and external hemroids, but there are also more specific sub-categorizations such as thrombosed and prolapsed hemroids.

Internal hemroids occur inside our rectum and usually goes unnoticed unless you strain too much when passing stool. The strain may cause it to bleed and the presence of blood in the stool may be the first sign that signals to a person that he may have hemroids.

When an internal hemroid  is pushed such that it protrudes from the anus, it is called a prolapsed hemorrhoid. This type often causes discomfort and pain.

External hemroids occur under the skin right outside the anus. The most common symptoms are itchiness and bleeding. Blood clots may also form in this type, causing the area to become swollen and inflamed. Such a condition is more specifically called a thrombosed hemorrhoid.
