Thrombosed Hemorrhoids
Hemorrhoids are not a major health hazard except when left untreated for a long time. In such a case they can cause serious health problems and the damage can become permanent in some patients. Thrombosed hemorrhoids are amongst the most severe forms of hemorrhoids.
Hemorrhoids are very common in Western countries and much less common in developing countries. Although the vast majority of people in the Western world experience hemorrhoids at some point in their lives, many find it embarrassing to admit they have them.
Hemorrhoids are caused by too much pressure in the rectum, forcing blood to stretch and bulge the walls of the veins, sometimes rupturing them.
Thrombosed hemorrhoids occur when the vein has become clotted. They usually swell up terribly and cause a great deal of pain and change color to a bluish, purplish or black tinge.
These type of hemorrhoids are very painful but usually don’t require surgery as they can be treated with warm baths, creams, and a change in diet. In more severe cases a simple procedure can be used to drain or excise the hemorrhoid.
Thrombosed hemorrhoids are caused from external and not the internal type hemorrhoids. And when the condition of the internal hemorrhoids reaches the final stage and that is prolapsed hemorrhoids. Thrombosed hemorrhoids are itchy and usually quite painful.
