What Causes Hemorrhoids

Hemorrhoids are very common are actually very much like varicose veins. It is estimated that more than 11 million Americans have hemorrhoids and 3.3 million of them seek medical treatments each year! What causes hemorrhoids?

Hemorrhoids are just not something that people feel comfortable talking about. They are inflamed blood vessels that surround the rectum, caused by constipation. Bloody stools, swelling or uncomfortable burning in the anus while moving bowel are some indicators of hemroids .

They are also common in pregnant women due to the pressure of the fetus in the abdomen, as well as hormonal changes, which cause hemorrhoidal vessels to enlarge. The process of childbirth can put severe stress on these vessels.

What causes hemorrhoids is that they are dilated veins that result because of increased pressure in the rectum. This increased pressure can be caused by constipation and hence straining to get stool out,  They are seldom medically serious by themselves, but because they can bleed, they can sometimes lull people who have significant bowel disease into believing nothing much is wrong.

Rectal bleeding must always be checked out by someone who can tell you the cause, and this caution applies even to those who have been diagnosed with hemorrhoids in the past because you never know when new bleeding is due to some new tumor.

They can affect both men and women in equal measure no matter what age they are. Hemorrhoids (also known as hemorrhoids or piles) are varicosities or swelling and inflammation of veins in the rectum and anus. Two of the most common types of hemorrhoids are external and internal hemorrhoids.
